Alexa Sutherland, LCSW

Alexa Sutherland is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with children, young teens and families. Alexa utilizes a strengths based, client centered approach in her work while integrating creative interventions and trauma informed evidenced based treatment.

Alexa works primarily with young children struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, OCD and trauma related disorders. She is skilled at working with children on the autism spectrum, as well as struggling with emotion regulation, executive functioning challenges and sensory processing disorders. Alexa additionally offers parent coaching sessions for parents looking to understand their child’s diagnosis and/or struggling with effective communication with their child.

Alexa graduated from Tulane University in 2014 with a Masters of Social Work and specialized certificate in Disaster Mental Health and Trauma Studies. Since then, Alexa has worked in a variety of settings including extended day treatment, psychiatric hospitals, public schools and group practice. Alexa has extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DIR Floortime, and Play Therapy and is a certified trainer of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, a Life is Good Playmaker and certified children’s yoga teacher.

Alexa joined Shoreline Psychological in 2022 after moving back to her home state of CT and also works with a local nonprofit to provide Equine Assisted Psychotherapy to children and families.
